Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) is the youngest engineering department at Missouri S&T and is a revolutionary one at that. IDE focuses on solving design problems through hands-on activities each academic year. It also encourages flexibility in the engineering curriculum. This enables students to choose their paths of study to fit their dreams, pending positions, or merely their curiosity about science, math, and engineering. These options are called Specialty Tracks.
IDE teaches a formal process of design from the fuzzy front end (FFE), to prototyping, and ultimately the product. The program takes pride in graduation designers with strong backgrounds in fundamental engineering sciences.
IDE is currently preparing its first ABET Self-Study for the Bachelor of Science program. Both the M.S. and Ph.D. programs are awaiting approval from the University of Missouri System.
